Quake

This poem is based on true events that have taken place in Christchurch, New Zealand on the 4th September 2010.

Quake

Silent was my world that morn
Waiting on the light of dawn
Then with vengeance mother nature speaks
I hear her, frown beneath my feet!

The windows rattled in the light
As I was thrown, in morning flight
Shaken earth, had caused my fear
A whisper, like the end was near!

Then I witnessed, as the lights grew dim
Flickering at earthly whim
The world was thrown into the dark
And I was fearful for my heart!

To wander in the darkened void
To feel my life essence destroyed
Was it now my destiny?
To walk in heavens ecstasy!

While I wrote this, my world was shaking
Only difference today there's light and nothing breaking
In the darkness, I felt my heart
And there was silence in that dark

Waiting for the sun to rise
Tired and weakened, compromised!
Was there rubble in the streets
That I would walk, with earthly feet?
